In recent years, students have adopted different ways to participate and engage in their learning. And whilst this is not without challenges, for many institutions it has become an opportunity to rethink how they support students engagement and outcomes.

The use of data has become a critical tool in helping to not only create a better understanding of student engagement but provide a means to offer proactive and individualised support to students.

To  better understand this growing focus on learning analytics, Wonkhe and Solutionpath partnered to launch a community of practice that set out to support a series of action research projects that would go on to explore how analytics are being used, their impact and lessons that could be learnt.

This report showcases findings from three of the participating universities that demonstrate the use of data to draw links between insight, practice and student success.

In the report expect to find:

  • An introduction and conclusions from Wonkhe, the home of Higher Education debate
  • Research findings from University of the West of England, Bristol, Teesside University and University College Birmingham
  • Emerging trends and considerations for the wider use of student engagement analytics
